Dunia Camp
Dunia is located in the Central Serengeti with Seronera being the nearest airstrip. This year-round camp has consistently good game viewing, yet they don’t experience the Great Migration in their own back yard. However, they offer day trips (1-2 hour drive) to the Southern Serengeti from December to April when the migration is there.
The camp consists of 8 traditional canvas safari tents with bucket showers. This is considered luxury camping, but it’s rustic enough that you don’t feel like you’re cheating! Tents are spacious and well-partitioned with separate bathrooms from the main tent for those sharing. From your covered verandah, you can enjoy lovely views across the grassy plains of this world-renowned reserve.
The Dunia staff is friendly and accommodating. We like their considerate touches – for example, Wellington boots are left for guests’ use when muddy (particularly during rainy April and May). We also love the food here.
Dunia means “Earth” in Swahili, and between the elephant walks and the sounds of nearby big game, you really get to feel close to nature. This is probably not the right place if you are nervous about being too close to nature, and if you are wanting to see the migration, you need to be weary of your timing.
