Duba Expedition Camp

The brand new Duba Expedition Camp is very similar to Duba Plains Camp in terms of wildlife on offer and overall ambiance. The camp is located in a private concession within the 220,000 acre Kwedi Concession in the extreme north of the Okavango Delta. Duba Expedition Camp is one the few camps in this game rich environ – which consists of habitats ranging from palm-dotted islands to floodplains to woodland – wildlife viewing abounds. Consequently, it is a frequent base for the work of renowned National Geographic filmmakers Dereck and Beverly Joubert. As water levels have increased there has been an influx of other mammals so that today there is a diverse range of species, including large herds of Red lechwe along with Blue wildebeest, Greater kudu, tsessebe and giraffe. The area is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Okavango ‘specials’ include the rare Wattled crane, Pel’s Fishing owl, White-backed Night heron and Marsh owl.as well as regular viewings of a number of unusual small carnivores such as aardwolf, bat-eared fox and side-striped jackal.

Duba Expedition Camp is intimate and consists of six expedition-style tents of light airy canvas on slightly raised decking. Each tent has a small desk and private verandah plus en-suite facilities consisting of flush toilet, double basins and indoor shower. The main area sits on raised decking, under sweeping marquis canvas, and consists of open-air dining and lounge. In the evenings, the fire pit is a popular spot to enjoy a cocktail and recount the day’s events.

Open game drive vehicle safari is possible, as well as game drives, which often continue into night drives in search of nocturnal species. Full day game drives with brunches and dinner delivered to the vehicle are also not uncommon. When water level allows, visitors can explore Okavango Delta’s permanent channels by boat; and guided game walks with licensed, armed guides are available – and these can be combined with boat cruise or game drive. Sightings of hippo and crocodile are common in the waterways.

We highly recommend Duba Expedition Camp and its sister properties Zarafa and Selinda Camp.
