Azura Quilalea
Azura Quilalea, in the Quirimbas Archipelago, is one of our favorite properties in Mozambique. It is both a romantic, exclusive beach getaway and a paradise for serious divers. The 86-acre island is totally uninhabited other than Azura Quilalea guests and staff.
The island is covered in lush vegetation and groves of ancient baobab trees. The villas are spread along two beaches, providing each with ample privacy. The villas are open-plan and spacious with a stylish décor of wood, cotton, and other beachy materials such as rope, pebbles, and rattan that all blend seamlessly with the island surroundings. Take a few steps toward the gleaming white beach or relax on your private deck and enjoy your villa. The signature elements of the Azura experience and service include private butler services for each villa, private dining in a new setting every night, and excellent fresh food.
The Indian Ocean is at your doorstep, and many of the activities and experiences at Quilalea are centered around it. The protected reefs in the Quirimbas Archipelago offer some of the most spectacular snorkeling and diving in the world. You can snorkel on the reef right off the beach at Quilalea or explore further afield on advanced deep-water dives. You can kayak, saltwater fish, or deep sea fish, watch the sunset from a traditional dhow, picnic in splendid isolation, or track down humpback whales on their seasonal migration.
There are really no downsides to Azura Quilalea, although there is more potential for rain in October, November, April, and May. In addition, although Quilalea is stunning, some might consider it more barefoot luxury than polished luxury. Those looking for polished luxury might prefer Azura Benguerra in the south.
